Grammy Nominations 2011

1 12 2011

The Grammy’s aren’t until February 12th, but that’s no reason not to have a pre-Grammy’s Grammys… right CBS?

Any excuse to hold a ‘Red Carpet’ event in Hollywood, with famous people and an hour to fill during the slow Holiday programming… but seriously, a concert o announce like, 4 Grammy catgory nominees is making it very hard to justify the legitimacy…CBS.

The other thing that makes it hard to take seriously? The ‘Host’ LL Cool J has become a Queen Latifa. You know what I mean, you can’t really say whether either is a singer/performer/actor/personality… both have become staples in the hosting circuit. Both have the same vibe… just personable enough to keep pace with the show, not enough to be offensive or water-cooler worthy.

Moving on…

First we have Lady Gaga sing her new ‘Marry the Night’ which has morphed into a dance power ballad with dancing skeletons with a dash of ‘Cats’ costuming. A solid effort, can’t wait to see her AT the Awards… wait, where are we now? Right, this isnt the actual awards…

Between the reading of literally, 4 or 5 categories of nominees… we also had performances by The Band Perry (apparently they have OTHER songs!), Sugarland and Gaga, a Rap tribute to The Message, taped performance by Rihanna…

I just think the whole show was SO pointless. There was a grand total of maybe 10 honest to goodness famous people on hand… and they got all split the camera time. It was a grand illusion, and it serves no real purpose. The performances were… ok, but save it for the Big Day! But honestly, the BEST thing about the grammys show for me, is the random duets, and the introduction of new music… last year, I fell in love with Mumford and Sons with Bob Dylan… now, they are all over the Grammys with The Cave, and I couldnt be more pleased 🙂
