Own it Canada…

28 02 2010

In Days of yore,
From Britain’s shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia’s flag
On Canada’s fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

At Queenston Heights and Lundy’s Lane
Our brave fathers side by side
For freedom’s home and loved ones dear,
Firmly stood and nobly died.
And so their rights which they maintained,
We swear to yeild them never.
Our watchword ever more shall be
The Maple Leaf Forever

Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound
May peace forever be our lot
And plenty a store abound
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever
And flourish green for freedom’s home
The Maple Leaf Forever

Working on a very special Olympic wrap-up for tomorrows blog, be sure to check back in! But for tonight, Watching the Closing cermonies in pure elation and bursting pride, as a Canadian…strong and free. and now the world knows the party we are having up here!

Big day for the Home team…

25 02 2010

whether you want to call it “winning wednesday” or “womens wednesday” or my personal favourite,  “We beat those pesky Russians Wednesday” … yesterday was a great day on the podium for the hometeam.

Now it’s thursday, and the bar has been set high…but we have a chance to make it another great run for a haul of medals!

Here’s what I’m watching today:

12- Womens semi final curling : CAN v SUI

2- Womens Hockey BRONZE game: FIN v SWE

5- Mens Curling semi finals: CAN v SWE

6:30- Womens hockey GOLD game: CAN v USA

8- Ladies figure skating FINALS

9- Mens Aerials FINALS

The buzz is deafening, and there are plenty of stories to follow today. Joannie Rochette made international news and stole international hearts with her short program, tonight she goes for a medal! The Womens hockey team could lead the charge for hockey supremacy and another gold medal. The womens and Mens curling teams have been dominating, now it COUNTS…! And there are 3 Canadian men in the Aerials finals…3 times the chances!

Medal picture is gonna change today….I can feel it!

The Summit Series 2010…

24 02 2010

For those of you who are unaware of that series, let me set the stage.

The year is 1972, we are int he middle of a cold war… and those darn Soviets are threatning to take our national identity- the game of hockey. We propose a DUEL…winner takes the pride and national honour. A 7 game series ensues, with games in both nations, and is touted as The Summit Series.

Paul Hendersons shot heard round the world gave Canada it’s game…to wear as a badge of honour….until the next country threatens to rip it from our proverbial lapel.

The time has come to rehash the past, to dig up old rivalries, to take up the torch from the heros of our past. In seriously, over dramatic fashion (only used by Canadians when talking about a big game) The Russians are back…and it’s life or death tonight.

There are a few other things to watch before that happens (call it a pre-show, call it an Olympic appetizer, call it 11 hours of build up) …

So here’s the schedule for the day:

1- Womens GS run

2:15- Mens Cross Country

3- Mens Hockey Q-final: USA v SUI

4- Womens Longtrack Speedskating

7:30- The big game: CAN v RUS

8- Womens Bobsled
      Womens Shortrack speedskating

8:45- Mens Shorttrack speedskating

9:30- Womens shorttrack relay

10-Hockey Q-Final: Finaland v CZE

12- Hockey Q Final: SWE vs SLO

So, there is definitly enough to keep you busy pre-game and post-game…

…and the medal picture could grow tonight!

Another Day…another GOLD!

Women are cleaning up the medals for Canada…oh, and of the 11 medals…6 are GOLD…that’s huge! Keep er’ coming team!

Another GOLDEN day…

23 02 2010

Enjoy…

A Sorta-Super Sunday recap…

21 02 2010

kind of a frustrating day for the hometeam. Here are some highlights and lowlights of the day that was…”super sunday”.

Lowlights (get them over with eh?)

  • Chris Del Bosco of ski cross, crashed in the finals unable to reach the podium. sad.
  • After an uncharacteristic crash on course, Canada’s bobsleigh team was too far behind to catch up in the final runs today, but still finished 5th amazingly!
  • Figure skater, Joannie Rochette’s mother died suddenly in hospital today…as of now, reports say Joannie will continue on in the comeptition…but I highly doubt that…and I HOPE she takes her time in recovery from such a loss. soooo sad.
  • oh yah…and I have a hard time even writing about this, so i will be brief. Canada lost a heartbreaker game to the USA in hockey. There. I said it.

Highlights:

  • Kristina Groves wins ANOTHER medal in long track speedskating… a Silver to add to her medal collection!
  • Both of Canada’s curling teams are steamrolling through the competition, winning both their matches today. (hey, if you like watching Canada WIN…start watching curling. By the way, Wayne Gretzky himself was in attendance last night…just saying.)
  • Canada’s dream team, Ice Dancers Virtue and Moyer continued in their quest for a podium birth …sitting in FIRST PLACE after an absolutly PERFECT skate andpersonal best score…they are the team on TOP going into the final skate!

So add another medal to the picture, although it’s becoming a bit of a Kristina Groves collage at this point…atta girl!

“Super Sunday”…

21 02 2010

The greatest thing about being a TV fantatic (obsessive) during the Olympics, is that each day gets MORE and MORE exciting and worth spending the entire day infront of. Like today for example…they are billing it as “Super Sunday” (which to me sounds more like a dessert at Pizza Hut or something…) because it is literally…cant-miss TV every hour of the day and night. Here’s what I’m talking about…

What I’m watching today:

12- Womens Curling

3- Ski Cross (finals)

4:30- Bobsled (finals)

5- Mens Curling

6- Speedskating and Figure skating (dance)

7:30- (EPIC!) Mens Hockey CAN v USA

10- W Curling

If that doesnt speak for itself, I dont know what will. Cancel plans, skip the shower and general ‘rat race’ for the day… it’s “Super Sunday” (with sprinkles…!) and you NEED to be watching it!

Enjoy!
