Survivor Redemption Island News!

13 01 2011

Some Survivor news to start the day!

Remember THIS post? It’s where I told you there were rumours swirling about the cast of Survivor: Redemption Island.

only 16 survivors were originally announced and photographed… but waiting int he wings were two other castmates – yet to be revealed.

Today, it was released that Boston Rob and Russell would indeed be returning to the island this season! Exciting? I think SO! This season was already shaping up to be a classic with the new format, and now they are bringing back two of the most prolific Survivors of all time. I’m a massive Boston Rob fan. I still dont know what to think about Russell… but he will NO DOUBT shake things up and stir the drama pot!

EAch will join a tribe – not sure how the other cast mates will feel about this, or if they’ll keep them around long. History says Not likely. But both are gunning for each other, let’s recall, Russell was instrumental in ousting Rob from their last All-Star gig.

The official announcement is HERE.

The new season Premiere will air  Wednesday, Feb. 16 on CBS – it’s already in my calendar under ‘order in and leave the phone off the hook’.

AFI Top 10 TV Shows

13 12 2010

The AFI (American Film Institute) released the 2010 List of Top Films and TV Shows.

Is your favourite on the list?

  • Boardwalk Empire
  • Breaking Bad
  • Glee
  • Mad Men
  • The Pacific
  • 30 Rock
  • The Walking Dead
  • The Big C
  • Temple Grandin
  • Modern Family

I’m going to be honest with you… I havent seen half of these shows. I don’t do cable TV. So I’m pleased as punch to see ‘the peoples’ TV shows on the list… Modern Family, 30 Rock and GLEE are certainly deserving. Although, I would argue GLEE was better last year.

No reality TV shows, and THANK the HEAVENS … a 2010 list that leaves out The Jersey Shore (drink it in, it may be the only one…)! There is a God.

How does it measure up to your Top TV Shows?

The Sing Off: Week 1

6 12 2010

The first episode of this seasons The Sing Off, set the stage for what looks to be a pretty entertaining run!

The judges are back… if you ask me, they are all (minus one) superfluous especially in a field of incredible artists on the verge.

Here is my assessment of what went down on week 1 (let me remind you… you’ll need to get used to the names I give these groups…they will likely NOT be their given names…stay with me!)

The Breakfast Club: highschoolers from every clique… or as Sherzinger pointed out so eloquently, the real-life GLEE. Right. They sang Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’... a disappointing choice, but not a surprise given their age/influences.

Family Troupe: A father daughter angle that proved… having a recording studio in your basement can really give you ‘direction’ from a young age. Some kids are mortified at the thought of driving to school with their parents…others join their super-cool acapella group.

The Talk of the Town (real name!): I love these guys…a true tribute to the style and history of this genre. Lead by legendary MoTown-er Jerry Lawson, these guys put the kids to shame.

The Cali’s: Formed solely to compete in this show with some left-overs/cast offs from last year. This California group plays on the beach while they sing… and have one power voice they like to showcase (the headliner who wants her own contract…wait for it).

Art Snobs: we’re from Berkeley ART college…we practice 8 times a day, play every instrument and have more pedigree than any other contestant. Hear us roar. Lesson in humility needed…

Youtubers: Yes, a YouTube sensation with their rendition of Gaga’s Bad Romance (but who wasnt?) Great choreography, with a can’t miss song… can’t wait to see/hear more.

Whiffenpoofs: I WILL remember that name (I might even rename my dog…) Another frat-group, this time from Yale. They fell into the ‘we invented this style’ trap that rendered them slightly irritating…. but then they pulled of Mika’s Grace Kelly and I will forgive their initial missteps.

Church Boys: Havent sang alot of ‘pop’ music, but choose Maroon 5 to break into it? A good choice, a fantastic group of voices, and a lot to anticipate from them… goes to show that solid vocals doesnt have to come from Yale, or  Berkeley- they can be God-given gifts.

Country Boys: I love this storyline – a guy makes it in Music city, but gets mistreated by his label. Time for a second chance, with a groups of other Nashville voices… great personalities and a slight blues style could get interesting.

Choir Jocks: A group of guys that sing…and play sports (a rarity!) They also have employed their high school choir teacher to coach them… cute!

The first two groups heading home without another chance…

The Art Snobs (y’know what they say about Karma)
and the Choir Jocks

Early Favourites?

Greys Anatomy: November 18

18 11 2010

I’m still a fan of Thursday Night TV.

In a recent TV Night pollGreys Anatomy was the consensus ‘Favourite Scripted TV Show’ of the season. This warms the cockles of my heart, people still watch this show along with me!

Tonight was interesting- seeing the difference between the light and the dark. That was the theme. In the dark, you do things that you wouldnt EVER do in the light.

For example:
Sleep with your best friend – Torres and McSteamy
Drink until you threaten to call your Ex- Bailey
Drink until you are performing lap dances – Christina
Perform surgeries without approval or a qualified surgeon present- Grey and Carev

et al.

There was a lot of drinking in this episode…so on another note, remind me NEVER to enter an OR without a Breath-alizer test on my surgeon. Just sayin.

So the next questions are:

When is Christina done with this Frat-‘phase’ and returning to her destiny as a talented and truly great surgeon?
Are Torres and McSteamy a ‘thing’ now? Was the Lesbian thing a phase?
Is there another love interest in the future for: Bailey, Carev, Little Grey…the Virgin-girl?
What IS the deal with this new Surgeon Stark? Big time jerk.

Not my favourite episode ever…not even close…but the ‘day after’ episode will be interesting!

Drama at The View

14 10 2010

Enter Bill O’Reilly … Exit Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg.

Remember the good ol’ days when Rosie O’Donnell routinely made Elisabeth Hasselbeck cry, and fights broke out twice an episode? Well, looks like after a calm period, the Whoopi era has it’s first ‘walk off’.

What was the trigger?

Bill O’Reilly (shock jock dressed in a politico suit) suggesting that 70% of Americans don’t want a mosque to be built near Ground Zero and that “Muslims killed us on 9/11“.

Joy stood up, and Whoopi joined her in a walk off stage.

The reaction?

A tongue-lashing from Barbara saying that her colleague were wrong to dismiss ideals NOT their own.

So, here’s the clip of ‘the incident’ :

Who do you side with?

A “not so happy” 2009

22 12 2009

We watched alot of TV this year (like every year…) but there were some shows that did not feel the same amount of LOVE as others (we love DWTS, Idol, SYTYCD, Greys…all the usual suspects)—

Here is a list of the LEAST watched TV shows this season (non of which are life-changing or shocking in any respect…you’ll see.)

  • ‘The Beautiful Life’ (The CW) –canned after only a few episodes, and even after the “star” went to rehab (which usually boosts ratings) the show tried to sub-in a new “star” to no avail.
  • ‘Melrose Place’ (The CW) –They even tried bringing back original characters, the problem is that nothing is shocking or “edgy” anymore…the content was weak.
  • ”Til Death’ (FOX) The post-“Raymond” vehicle for Brad Garrett…no love.
  • ‘90210’ (The CW) –another case of the “struggle to be edgy”…we werent buyin’ it this year.
  • ‘Brothers’ (FOX) –switched timelsots alot, and ended up in the dreaded “friday night” spot…death.
  • ‘Gossip Girl’ (The CW) –A one hit wonder show.
  • ‘Dollhouse’ (FOX) –I never watched it…but I’m not the only one apparantly.
  • ‘Better Off Ted’ (ABC) –a lesser effective attempt at comedy for ABC
  • ‘Supernanny’ (ABC) –A fad show a few seasons back…I didnt rememer this was still on.
  • ‘Cops’ (FOX) –a saturday night show with a niche following.
  • ‘Scrubs’ (ABC) –too quirky for a mass audience? It is in it’s 9th season though…still hanging on.
  • ‘Football Night in America,’ part 2 (NBC) –Like “The Today Show’s” second hour…you can only watch so much!
  • ‘Ugly Betty’ (ABC) — Had major audience issues this year, I forsee an ugly demise for this show.
  • ‘Parks and Recreation’ (NBC) –I wish more people watched this show, but like 30 Rock…critically acclaimed…but people dont like to be told what to watch.
  • ‘The Jay Leno Show’ – Thursday (NBC) –Because there are so many OTHER things to watch on a Thursday night…no chance I’m giving up an hour to watch a NIGHTLY show.
  • ‘SNL Weekend Update Thursday’ (NBC) –I dont see this venture returning next year.
  • ’48 Hours Mystery’ (CBS) –a “true crime” show…but we like the fake ones better!
  • ‘Gary Unmarried’ (CBS) –another comedy that forces you to laugh, waiting on each beat…formulaic and unoriginal.
  • ‘The New Adventures of Old Christine’ (CBS) –See above.
  • ‘Accidentally on Purpose’ (CBS)– see above. Comedies did NOT fare well this year…

Any of these surprise you? I will be interested to see how many return for next season

Wednesday TV Night

25 11 2009

We’ve made it back again to “Hump-Day” (mind out of the gutter please…) and another stellar TV line up attempts to make waking up this morning…better! Can it top last night’s Osmond win, SYTYCD performance show or Allen voted off Biggest Loser (to be followed closely by an appearance on Leno) ?

Let’s take a look at what I’m watching tonight:

Biggest Loser: Where are they now? – Can you imagine the stress of a) competing on the Biggest Loser b) living through months of personal workout sessions (the 9th ring of hell) with Jillian, and  c) completly exposing your biggest weaknesses (inner demons, darkest secrets and “daddy issues”) on national TV…all to NEVER be safe from a “drop in” or check up (wonder if that was in the fine print of their contract…)? That makes for GREAT TV…and it’s all happening tonight!!! Beware former competitors, y’all better not have any ice cream in the freezer or pizza take-out on your speed dial…Because your favourite trainers (devil’s henchmen) will be susprising you with a visit and revealing your ability to “stay on track” and “keep it off”…for millions to watch (judge). Tune in for a full 2 hours of entertaining success stories, and the occassional falling -off- the -wagon interventions, tonight at 8pm on NBC.

SYTYCD Results- A great show last night, but 12 becomes 10 tonight! My favourites from last night were: Ballroom Ryan and Ellenore, Wife of Ballroom Ryan (Ashleigh) and Billy Elliott, and Russel (minus his partner, she was pretty, but I cant remember her…) Legace and Noelle had a solid first dance, but came up slightly short on the ballroom…but Legace did not wear a shirt and he showed his soft side (swoon) by crying– smart, very smart.

Predictions: I predict the bottom couples will be JLO and Victor, Mollee and Nathan and Russel and…his partner. In the end, I think the judges will then choose to send home JLO and Victor. Both have been in the bottom before, and both have faded into the background after starting very strong…judges are ALL about “growth”…that is what I foresee for the evening, but I will NOT be betting any useful body part or member of the family on that.  Results tonight on FOX/CTV 8pm

Leafs vs Tampa Bay- what happened to Tampa Bay? They used to be such an exciting team (much like Chicago this year), with young, fast, Canadian boys like Lacavalier , St Louis, Stamkos, Tanguay and Downie…they should be dominating every game (isnt that the kind of game the “new” NHL predicted would succeed?) But lately they have not lived up to their talent…sound familiar? The Leafs are in town tonight, and after a big confidence boosting win at home against Washington, followed by a kick in the pants loss to the Islanders…what team can we expect to show up tonight? If  the team continues to shoot from anywhere and rack up an insane shot total…eventually one or two will go in…and there is no Roloson on this team to steal a game. Tune in for another bottom-dweller duel tonight, TSN 7pm.

Other shows to try:

Dragons Den on CBC –Seriously, this is a very entertaining and intelligent show…A Canadian production, which has recently been copied in the States under the moniker “Shark Pit” (produced by the KING of Reality TV, Mark Burnett…)…but we do it better! So tune into CBC for it’s Gemini Award winning reality show where wanna-be inventors and entrepreneurs vie for money and a chance infront of 5 rich business minds. CBC 8pm

CSI NY- If you arent a fan of Horatio…This is a good option for you! CSI is the best in Police Procedral, so don’t let an eccentric red-head throw you off the wagon…The NYC version of the 3 city franchise is grittier, and has a better accent than it’s Vegas and Miami counterparts. Tune in tonight, CBS/CTV 10pm

Whatever you decide to watch, have a great TV Night.
