DWTS : Finale

23 11 2009

The glow of the Mirror-ball was omni-present as the remaining 3 dancers performed their final routines…it all comes down to this!

Here are the Highlights of the Night for each dancer:

Kelly Osbourne:

Tango- she definitly showed how far she’s come, and she looked like the princess of darkness (appropriate). Not enough to WOW the judges…

Freestyle- A fun, very sequened number. Kelly did her best impression of the mirrorball trophy with her outfit. She was able to let everything loose, and you could tell she was having fun…her constant giggling, face-wide smile and personality outshone the minor mistakes throughout the number… not a bad score from the judges ( nines across the board) but probably still not enough to outscore Mya…we shall see!

Quote of the Night:
“No $%&#-ing way. I will look like an upside down whale” — as Louis is showing her a new move in practice

Prediction: In think Kellys talent can only get her so far, and her personality and likeability has gotten her THIS far, I predict a third place finish for Kelly…but she always makes me smile (which is a turn around, I always remember her being a mopey little brat with pink hair…) I’m glad she worked on her image before the show, because with Aaron Carter in the competition, I could not have handled another slightly less famous, yet completly self important member of a famous family.

Mya

Paso Doble- She looked hot, she wore a fierce cape and she danced with precision. But this was NOT the most memorable dance of the evening…but alas, it scored her perfect tens.

Freestyle- She made a point in the video piece pre-dance to mention that SHE was not totally on board with Dimitris decision to do a broadway-esque number. She wanted something edgier, more creative and more “her” (funny, beacuse I find her the least edgy, creative and least personable…) So when the judges gave her an astonishly low score (nines across the board) her mood went very sour…I predict a serious “I Told You So-Diva Moment” behind the scenes….eek!

Quote of the Night:

“I have sacrificed my personal life to be here”– in a post-dance interview
(coincidental, I TOO have sacrificed my personal life to watch you…)

Prediction: I’ve said it before, if she had an ounce of Kellys edge or Donnys personality…she’d be a shoo-in to win (almost like a MelB of a few seasons back…) but she is never a stand out to me, I forget her dances the minute a commercial break comes on…and dispite her obvious talent and accuracy…I predict a second place finish for Mya. I could be wrong, she could have a TON of fans—I even remembered her name this week.

Donny Osmond

Cha Cha- Donny also displays his knack for dressing as a doppelganger of the mirrorball trophy. In this dance, Donny Osmond found out he had…hips (Bruno has the incredible propensity to reveal hidden sex-appeal in dancers…) and he used ’em in this routine. With Marie and her gaggle of ‘famous friends’ looking on, Donny managed to eke out some pretty solid scores.

Freestyle- Donny decided to dance a Broadway routine (you’d think he’d do something more natural for him…) and he poured every last shred of personality, showmanship and Osmond dramatic flair into it! I saw him in the Toronto production of Joseph a decade ago, and he was shirtless and buff then…He is just as in shape and energetic as ever…it’s incredible (perhaps it’s because he still has the face of a 14 year old…so it all evens out!) A perfect score for the dance.

Quote of the Night:

“If you had a sister like Marie, who could bug you the way she can the rest of your life…you’d want to win this too” (please people, vote for the poor man!)

Prediction: Donny not only endears himself to the crowd/voting public, He also dances very well…and he had the show-stopper tonight (sorry Mya). A couple weeks ago I said he had the star-quality, big name and talent to be number one…and my prediction after this week is that he will indeed take home the trophy to match his smile (and wardrobe).

Some great dances, a good cast this year…not really a CLEAR winner…tune in tomrrow night for (2 hours worth of fluffy filler) the results, ABC/CTV 8pm.

Monday TV Night…

23 11 2009

As a new week begins…so does a GREAT line up  of television shows to fill your nights! It may be hard to get up on Monday morning  but Monday night is certainly easy to stay awake for… get ready for a  fantastic TV Night!

Here’s what I’m watching tonight:

DWTS: Finale- The Final 3 couples dance for Mirror-ball supremacy, and an even more enticing,  extra couple of months in the fame spotlight!
Will it be…

Donny Osmond– his smile is legendary, his name is iconic…but will his dancing be enough to propel him past the ladies? Donny has been solid throughout the competiton, and a couple of weeks ago I had him pegged as the potential winner…last week he fell slightly flat for me (and the judges), so it will be interesting to see if he can revive his once stellar ability to hide his inadequacies behind his smile and showman-flair!

Mya- She’s starting to be memorable now…for instance, this week I remembered her name without having to look it up. She still needs some of Donny’s personality, and some of Kelly’s edge…but technically she’s probably the most precise (could it be her previous dance training?…no I will not let that go!) She will look hot, she will have hip-action and pointed toes…but will she stand out? If I can still remember her name tomorrow, she could have a shot!

Kelly Osbourne- Came out of the gate as the surprise of the season…surprise in that she has shed her bratty image and has a mega-watt smile that seems to make people forget how much they hated her 6 or 7 years ago! She is definitly a crowd/fan favourite, and although she has not been as strong throughout the competition, she has some serious voter support, she is quirky enough to stand out, and she is getting stronger at the right time— don’t count her out (she WAS on Ellen today for a final push!)

tune in for the finale tonight on ABC/CTV 8pm

CSI Miami- I get some really mixed reviews on this show, and it all comes down to the love or hate for (insert dramatic pause) …Horatio Cain. It still breaks the top ten every week, and I’ve heard it continues to be the most watched TV show internationally. Love him or Hate him…Horatio will solve another crime, put another bad-guy in cuffs and ride off into the Miami sunset again tonight, CBS/CTV 10pm

Leafs vs Islanders – This is really billed as Leafs vs John Tavares. The Leafs are coming off a great game on saturday night, whereby the “rally helmets” came out and inspired a shoot-out win. Looking to continue and win ANOTHER (gasp!) game tonight vs the returning-local-phenom. Hey, they managed to beat Ovechkin… Tonight 7pm RSO

Other Mentionables:

John and Kate plus 8…its over, this is the LAST time you’ll have to sit through John being interviewed on his dull couch, in his faded jeans and Ed Hardy Tee…The LAST time you’ll have to watch Kate sitting in the same dull couch (John-less), oppposing whatever John just said and playing Mom of the Year. So if you think this is worth watching because it has historic significance… Tonight at 9pm on TLC (unfortunately I cannot promise you will never see these two again, Kate has a talk show in the works…and John continues to breath.)

Whatever you decide to watch, have a great TV Night.

Amazing Race

23 11 2009

If there was ever an indication that education in school these days is seriously lacking, or skipping over some important topics in place of pizza parties…This show exposes it!

Exhibit A:
Destination –Prague
Question: “Do they speak Spanish there?” –  gay brother 1
Answer: “Prague? It a COUNTRY” – gay brother 2

Sigh…

I always wonder what my tactic would be if I were in the race. I pretty much think I would be looking fo rthe fastest and most direct route to the mark…seems logical. So Blonde couple (followed by Gay brothers) take a taxi, but Beauty Queen and husband decide to take every other possible mode of transportation to get to the same place (bus, subway…bears omy!)

The teams had to shimmy their way across a ropes course designed for normal people…as in people UNDER 6’4 and 250 pounds. This poses a problem for the Giant Globetrotters who were dangling so low, they practically walked it! All teams managed to get by unscathed and the task of finding a taxi in Prague begins again (people think getting around in NYC was difficult…try finding a taxi at the side of a mountain in Prague).

After tearfully promising eachother that they would never yell (hurl hurtful insults) at eachother again, the (forgettful) gay brothers are still the loudest team– and considering they spend most og their time assessing other team’s ethical inadequacies— they forget about that as well and steal Beauty Queen and Husbands taxi (probably one of 5 in the entire Prague fleet…), the dirtiest trick in the Amazing Race handbook.

Once again, Beauty Queen is given the challenge that requires patience and observant detection skills…both of which she seriously lacks (remember the bell counting exercise?) As the other teams quickly ransack the stunning opera house to find the hidden mini-violin, she seemingly turns over every chair in vain. All teams arrive, all teams leave…the fate of this team appears obvious.

But alas… upon arrival in LAST place at the pit-stop…Phil informs them that they are (once again) saved and will be the 4th team racing for 1 Million dollars in next weeks finale.

Results:
1st-Blonde Couple
(and they win a trip to Hawaii…to go with their sauna…)
2nd- Gay Brothers
3rd-Globetrotters
4th-Beauty Queen and Hubby

So 4 teams will race in the finale: The All-American sweethearts, The Crafty brothers, The Crowd favourites and the Lucky ones…they all need to run their best leg next sunday…could come down to luck…or transportation (best taxi driver wins….)

My Score: 14/19

The surprises for me were the lack of surprises. I was pretty sure people would vote for a new Country Duo in Sugarland rather than reverting to the ‘ole faithful’ of Rascal Flatts…but I was wrong. I also predicted Taylor Swift wouldnt win EVERY award she was nominated for, giving up Adult contemporary to Daughtry…but I was wrong there too. Some of my ‘pure guesses based on gut feeling or coolest sounding names” did not pan out, but overall…I’m proud of my score…I must say my power for predicting reality shows is much stonger and accurate.

The show was great last night, I almost forgot it was an Awards show, it really played out more as the showcase for popular music of 2009 (minus the appearance of some peculiars: A-Rod, Seth Green, Christian Slater, Nicole Kidman…that creepy lizard/alien from V…)

I love that neither of the two acts who won ALL of the awards were present to accept…between MJ and Taylor…hope the AMA’s didnt feel snubbed.

(be sure to check out my previous post, I blogged in REAL time during the awards– my wrap up/commentary is below)
