Thursday Night TV

25 03 2010

Wondering why you were watching Survivor last night? Basketball is back …and CBS officially drops everything (even a ratings super star like Survivor) to air every minute of it. I mentioned it was College Basketball right? ONly in America.

Fortunately, There are other options on this thursday night! So you can go ahead and cancel any plans youve made…

Here’s what I’m watching tonight:

Greys Anatomy:
It’s going to be a goodie tonight. If there is one thing Greys does well…it’s ‘special’ episodes (the bomb episode was one of the greatest hours of TV i’ve witnessed…), and tonight, we get to see a flashback into the relationship between Teddie and Owen in the throngs of war. I think this will be pretty epic. Not only will we get a glimpse into their previous frienship and working relationship, saving soldiers in combat…but also, we will also start to understand the origin of Owens Post Tramatic Stress Disorder. Apparantly, this episode will shed some light on the incident that started it all…and the ‘trigger’ that will continue to set him off. Intriguing? I think so…! Also…i hesitate to mention, I’ve been hearing some rumours of a pregnancy…somewhere, with someone. Unsubstantiated! So don’t freak out, but I have some good sources. Tune in for some Greys drama tonight, 9pm ABC

NBC Comedy Tursday:
8:30 pm- Parks and Rec
(give it a try, it’s really quite a treat…I often find myself LOLing)
9pm- The Office (a new office relationship to follow, and whatever happened to the “contract” between Dwight and Angela? find out tonight.)
9:30- 30 Rock (Who doesnt love a little Tina Fey…fantastic on Letterman last night btw)
10pm- Marriage Ref (ok, so this is definitly a ‘filler’ show…but tonights panel is Kelly Rippa, jerry Seinfeld and Alec Baldwin)

Or you could watch…basketball (?!)

Whatever you decide to watch, have a great TV NIght.

Thursday…the spoiled brat day.

18 03 2010

One thing I love about having a blog is that I can use it to say things I’m not allowed to say during my working hours. Example, during a meeting, it is frowned upon to ask the guest speaker if he’s team Russel or Team Boston Rob. I also write a more family-friendly column for a newspaper…and I just cant always say things like “Kate Gosselin is a fame-whore who uses her children as cash-cows to fund her tranformation from nobody to Americas Hottest Mom“. I dont get a great reaction from my editor.

Today, I want to rant a little bit…bear with me loyal readers.

Monday night. Abysmal. Forcing me to watch more Post-Bachelor filler. Also a ploy…to make us LONG FOR DWTS the start…ratings will be through the roof next week, I can promise that. Good job ABC…very sneaky.

Tuesday Night was a relief. Giving Idol massive ratings again for a pretty weak show, lets be honest.

Wednesday was ok. Most of us tuned in to watch 3 so-so guest performers on Idol and one dispensible singer leave the stage. Tyra’s Top Model always serves its purpose…drama, beauty and (the international poke to the funny bone) watching models trip down a runway.

Thursday. What can I say… This used to be my favourite night of the week. It pre-empted Friday, and packed a serious entertainment punch. No other night could compete. SLowly but surely, this day has become a cocky little snipe. Yes it has. For example, cancelling all plans to watch Greys Anatomy, only to find out its a rerun. Or, the worst offense, the annual Survivor recap show. How about this week…where neither of these shows are on to make way for College (useless and over-hyped) Basketball, and a new episode of  (a show no one is watching) Flashforward. Is Thursday mad -as a -Johnny Depp -hatter? Ratings for Survivor and Greys are strong this year… why force us to watch things your demographic would have NO interest in? Not only that, CBS is really gonna screw us over next week. After making us wait a week for Survivor…next week is going to be …the recap show (rip my eyes out with a wrench please.)

So what will I be watching tonight you ask? I will NOT be suckered into watching college basketball or Flashforward…you can…but here’s my suggestion:

Give comedy and Fun shows a chance tonight. Tune in to NBC and keep it locked all night for:
8:30- Parks and Rec (It’s an Andy Samberg cameo night! Definitly give it a shot.)
9- The Office (Still a great show. The merger brings new policies to Scranton…watch Michael try to deal.)
9:30-30 Rock (Tina Fey is my heroine. In both senses of that word…)
10- Marriage Ref (Normally, I wouldnt TELL you to watch this show…but given the other choices, this is the best bet. And tonight, the guest panel features Cedric the Entertainer, Martha Stewart, and Jason Alexander…I kid you not.)

Whatever you decide to watch, have a great TV Night.

iiiiit’s Thursday!

21 01 2010

Thursday night TV is BACK and it is giving Tuesday a serious run for best day of the week… all the better for us! DO NOT go out tonight, make plans to throw on your best (oldest and most crumpled) pair of PJ’s (paint shirt and flannel pants) and flop yourself infront of the tube…Enjoy!

Here’s what I’m watching tonight:

Greys Anatomy-
This show is heating up , becoming must-watch TV again… which I am THRILLED about! The Chief is drinking again, which is starting to become noticable, and Meredith gave in and told Derek at the end of last week’s episode. Derek (being the knight on a white steed that he is…) will now take matters into his own hands and decide what is best for the hospital. Will he go to the board…or save his friendship with his mentor? Remember when HE was drinking the days away…? The Chief stuck with him…that should come into play along the lines.

Also, Christina “gave up” Owen (like lunch money) to jealous Blonde Ex. How much will Owen appreciate that move? And the biggest shocker of last week was the break up of Little Grey and McSteamy over his selfish long-lost daughter. I’m not a fan of that storyline (did anyone watch that continue with the PP crossover? I didnt…) and I hope the writers get sick of writing her into the plot soon…I’m over her.

Will Izzy return tonight? I saw her mug in a promo…but she’s been MIA for a long time now. I’m almost forgetting why I care about her….

Tune in tonight, ABC/CTV 9pm

CSI-
Dr Ray
and the rest of the gang are back in full new-episode form…and I’m loving it! Tonight’s episode is about a well known golfer (sound familiar?) showing up dead at a high profile event (who could they POSSIBLY be referencing?) This would be really morbid if anything else happens to Tiger… but in the meantime, I’m sure it has NOTHING to do with him… watch tonight at 8pm CTV/CBS

Comedy Thursday on NBC-
starting at 8:30 with Parks and Recreation, continuing with The Office at 9pm, and ending with a blow to the comedic jugular, 30 Rock at 9:30. If you enjoy a good chuckle without the aid of a laugh track, these are ALL great shows and they dont get enough appreciation (or viewership, excluding The Office perhaps)…so maybe tonight is the night you give them a shot?

Whatever you decide to watch, have a great TV Night.

Let’s talk about Last night…

15 01 2010

Here are the results of viewership/rating for Thursday night:

  1. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)
  2. Private Practice (ABC)
  3. The Mentalist (CBS)
  4. CSI (CBS)
  5. Bones (FOX)
  6. Fringe (FOX)
  7. Community (NBC)
  8. 30 Rock (NBC)
  9. 30 Rock (NBC)
  10. The Mentalist (R) (CBS)

interesting. I guess the strategic move to make Greys Anatomy a “crossover event” with its (uglier, less cool) sister show worked out nicely for it’s ratings.

I have to admit, I wasnt even tempted to watch the Private Practice part-2 of Greys…I’m sure there was lots of cheating, pregnancy scares, nights of passion regretted in the morning and witty doctor-speak/innuendos.

Nice to see 30 Rock in the top 10- strange that Parks and Rec (in between Community and 30 ROck) did NOT crack the list…and there was a cameo by Amy Poehlers off-screen hubby as a manic MRI technician…hilarious. Try again next week.

CSI is no surprise, DR Ray is breathing new life into that show—we still love the CSI structure…let’s see how it’s off-shoots do in the coming week with their premiere episodes of the season.

HUGE response from Bachelor fans on the leak of the PHOTO…you know what I’m talking about, the picture of the producer Rozlyn entered an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with, consequently ending her chances with Jake. The trade off…in hindsight…probably not the best decision she’s ever made. Maybe he has a great personality.

Thursday Night TV…

14 01 2010

Well, Thursday night is back… only half of its former self…but at least tonight marks the return of SOME of our favourites.

Here’s what I’m watching tonight:

Greys Anatomy-
Why must they foist a “cross-over” shows on us so soon!? Yes, tonight Greys is back after a VERY long holiday hiatus…and it will be a cross-over with (it’s ugly sister…) Private Practice.

To recap briefly: Izzy is back, Carrev is totally going to fall for “the lurker” as I call her (the doe eyed mercy-west invader), Ellen Pompeo will emerge from ‘under the blankets’ post-pregnancy, McSteamy has a daughter the same aga as his girlfriend, and Christina is going to have to fight off a former-flame for Owen. Should be interesting, Tune in tonight, ABC/CTV 8 pm

NBC Comedy Thursday-
This is what they are calling their string of unsuccessful yet acclaimed comedies airing back to back tonight. First, it’s the mildly amusing Community– with an appearance by the mildly amusing Jack Black. Next, the deadpan Parks and Recreation, with SNL ex Amy Poehler. Followed by 30 Rock with the darling of 2009, Tina Fey. All of these shows are as advertised…good old fashioned (with a hipster/Yuppy vibe) comedies. It all starts at 8pm on NBC…running directly into the recently canned Jay Leno Show.

Leafs vs Philly-
It’s hardly worth inciting you to watch the disappointing boys in blue. But tonight, Philly is town…and although the rivalry pales in comparison to the bench-clearing brawls of the 70’s… the game is always grittier and more entertaining than a bout against a Carolina or Islanders team. Let’s see if the Leafs can stand their ground and pull out a win tonight, TSN 7pm.

Whatever you decide to watch, have a great TV Night.

Thursday TV Night

10 12 2009

Remember when Thursday night used to reign supreme as the “must watch” TV Night? Well, it has lately been usurped by the likes of tuedays and wednesdays…but it still offers some good reasons to stay in and not make any plans.

Here’s what I’m watching tonight:

Survivor-
THE reason to get excited for thursday night…this show is absolutly amazing this season! Russel is a player we have not seen the likes of since Boston Rob (slimy, deceptive AND got the girl who ended up winning), Johnny Rotten (the dead grandma goes down in history) or even Richard Hatch (the orginal “snake”). But Russel has managed to not only outsmart the players…but also the entire game! He anticipated “multiple idols” and found them all. He came tot he island to “win” not to “win money“…there’s a difference.

And as much as I could go on about Russel, there are other players in this game…all who have yet to fully realize the power of Russel. Shambo has trusted him from the first southern-charming session. But last week, she was kept on the outs in the decidion to vote out John. Will her eyes fianlly be open to her role as either the “swing” vote or the useless decoy vote?

Dave is also starting to develop his own plans and (if he was really intelligent) could align himself with enough people to take out Russel. It looks as though Jaison and Mick could be persuaded in that direction if the deal was firm enough.

The girls are all useless pawns (whatever happened to strong female contestants? right…they get voted off early as “threats”) and will go along with whoever has majority and sleeps the closest to them.

There are still plenty of good (new) episodes left until the finale of this show, so if you have NOT bought into this franchise for a while, this would be a great time to start…seriously. (Hint: Russel is the pilsbury -dough- boy looking one with the southern accent and the devil’s blessing) tonight, 8pm CBS/Global

Leafs vs Boston-
You might do a double take…Boston again? The answer is yes. Boston again. But this time the Leafs are coming off of two very solid games, their confidence is high, and Kessel is NOT the only guy scoring. Toronto is also coming off a pretty busy schedule–they played last night and monday night, and will play again on saturday…you can thank the Olympics for that! So…the question is…are the Leafs capable of pulling this off? If they do, they will gain another 2 points in their run for 8th place in the East, they will have defeated a nemisis that brutally embarassed them in their last meeting, and will put together an astonishing 3-game win streak.

Most will not be able to watch tonight (thanks to Leafs TV) but you can follow the Twitter play-by-play here: http://twitter.com/MapleLeafs you are welcome. Puck drops tonight 7pm, Leafs TV

Other suggestions:

Three comedies that are all holiday themed and new tonight: Parks and Recreation (NBC 8:30) The Office (NBC 9pm) and 30 Rock (NBC 9:30) (…wow NBC dominates the laugh factory tonight…)

Whatever you decide to watch, have a great TV Night.
